This class will focus on movement creation through play, improvisation and freestyle. Rachel shares techniques she has researched and learned to provide structured improvisations (contemporary) and a freestyle environment (urban styles). Every class is different, building skills consistently, but in different ways. Dancers develop skills around body-awareness and perception, along with awareness of space and people around them. Through group improvisations, working in small groups and pairs, the class focuses on moving, expressing through movement and, of course, having fun! This class is suitable for boys and girls of any ability. NB: As September is one of our busiest terms early booking is advised to avoid disappointment.

The aim of these new classes is to provide an opportunity for participants to develop the skill and confidence to dance with ease. Classes include an introduction to floor-work, partner-work, and improvisation. With space to develop mind/body coordination as well as inner listening, students will be comfortable as first-time dancers or those coming back to movement after a long break. Each session builds on a movement sequence which is mastered by the end of the 6 week period. The teacher facilitates a relaxing yet exciting environment where the body's natural intuition and playfulness will be explored and appreciated. This class develops good posture, balance, flexibility, coordination, spatial awareness, and rhythm inherent both to Ballet as well as to a healthy body and mind. Ballet is not only a beautiful dance discipline. It also promotes the development of mental concentration and memory recall, together with body toning, strengthening and elongation of the muscular structure. You will learn basic ballet positions and patterns in a traditional structured class, consisting of a warm up, barre and centre exercises, and finally, a relaxing warm down routine incorporating improvised movements to music. Dance Limerick exists to support the development of professional dance artists within the Limerick region and beyond.

Through a combination of performance platforms, residency opportunities, master classes, talks and lectures, Dance Limerick will advocate for artistic dialogue and exchange. In collaboration with dance artists across a range of practices, Dance Limerick will promote the creation of new and innovative work and will devise programmes of access, engagement and participation for the wider public.

Based at the premises of the former Daghdha Dance Company, Dance Limerick houses offices and a fully equipped studio space along with a separate performance venue known as the Daghda Space
