RESIDENCY: HELGA DEASY

Dance Limerick is delighted to welcome independent dance artist Helga Deasy for a residency at Dance Limerick Studio in April 2015.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to develop my creative practice through an intense period of choreographic research at Dance Limerick which will inform the creation process of my current work ‘Longing Belonging’.

In this work I am investigating concepts of home and identity through the moving body, exploring safety, routines and relationships with other people, vulnerability, comfort and true connection as the central themes.

Working with the dancers Laura Murphy and Siobhan Ni Dhuinnin I will investigate a somatic approach to choreography which focuses on the body as perceived from within by first-person perception. The somatic principles of breath, touch and imagery will be explored as a movement source in the making of dance. These principles will be utilised to promote sensory awareness in order to overcome habitual movement patterns and to access bodily experience.

The aim is to devise a process that enables me to shape a movement vocabulary that is both original and authentic”.
