“Every afternoon, the children used to play in the Giant’s garden… One day, the Giant came back…”
Inspired by Oscar Wilde’s well-known short story The Selfish Giant, Limerick Youth Dance presents a new dance theatre piece for young audiences.
Gently exploring the circle of life, the young dancers reflect the changing seasons, friendship and kindness through movement and dance.
Suitable for family audiences.

Limerick Youth Dance (LYD) is the youth dance ensemble of Dance Limerick and is a great opportunity for young people aged 15-25 curious about dance to explore movement, to create new dance pieces and to perform on stage and screen. Led by dance artist Angie Smalis, the group meets once a week to rehearse and each term creates new dance projects, such as live performances and dance films.

Announcing details of The Selfish Giantess, Jenny Traynor, Director of Dance Limerick, said “This is a wonderful opportunity for families in Limerick to come and enjoy a new performance created by young dancers from Limerick. It’s very exciting to see the members of Limerick Youth Dance exploring a story for children by Oscar Wilde, one of Ireland’s best-known writers. We’re very proud of the hard work they have put in all term preparing and we can’t wait to see their final performance. The show begins at 1pm and is only 30 minutes duration, leaving plenty of time for any Munster rugby fans to make it to the match afterwards!”
